Custom Links, Redirects & Sitemap

on 14 April 2020, by Dimi, in Blog, Cloud, FREE, Updates

We've just released a new update for Brizy Cloud. This is a smaller update in terms of feature quantity, but a big one in terms of importance. We've added a couple of long awaited features: custom links for the menus, a way to let you redirect old URLs to new ones and sitemap XML.

I'll go through each feature briefly.

Menu Custom links

It might sound odd but there was no way to add a custom URL link in the Menu element in Brizy Cloud. Well, not until today. We've added a custom link option that will let you add either a custom URL but maybe more important, an anchor link to one of the blocks on the page.

Here is how you can add a custom Anchor link in the menu in Brizy Cloud:

Step 1. Go to Settings > Menu and select the menu you want to add the custom links into

Step 2. Add Custom links from the sidebar.

Step 3. Click on the Settings icon and add in the anchor field the name of the block with #block-name, make sure to include the #

The block name is the name you give to your block from the block advanced settings.

Redirects

The Redirects section lets you create 301 permanent redirects from your old URLs to your new ones. This is to be used in specific cases when you want to redirect a specific URL to a new URL. Here is how to create a redirect in Brizy Cloud CMS.

Step 1. Open the Redirects section in the Settings window

Step 2. Put every redirect on a new line /old-URL [SPACE] /new-URL, here is an example for 3 different random redirects

/home /

/shop /new-shop

/about-us /team

Let's take /about-us /team rule. That means that your-domain/about-us will redirect to your-domain/team.

Sitemap XML

An XML sitemap is a roadmap of your website that leads Google to all your important pages. XML sitemaps can be good for SEO, as they allow Google to quickly find your essential website pages.

Brizy Cloud creates the sitemap XML file for every project automatically and you can access your project's sitemap anytime by going to /sitemap.xml in your project.

For example, if you have a custom domain linked to your Brizy Cloud project mydomain, you would access your sitemap XML on mydomain/sitemap.xml in your browser.

You don't have to do anything for Google to find your sitemap. We placed it exactly where it needs to be for Google to find it when it visits your website.

What's coming next

We are working on a couple of important things, like Block conditions and a Sync feature for blocks and full layouts in your Brizy account. Besides these, we have a couple of new elements in the works as well: MegaMenu, Table, improved vertical Menu element and so on.

We still need some time for the block conditions and the sync feature so if we have the elements ready first we'll put them in your hands as soon as possible.

Great things ahead.
