Auto-translate your website in multiple languages instantly with Brizy PRO

by Dimi

We've added a new multilingual feature in Brizy Cloud that will let you translate your website into multiple languages in a couple of clicks. It's easy to use, comes with auto translations (via Google Translate) and as always we include part of the features in Brizy Free.

The multilingual solution for translating your website comes natively integrated into Brizy Cloud, so you don't have to set up other external tools and pay for 3rd party solutions like WeGlot.

Let's break down what we've added in this update:

How to add a language switcher on your website

The multilingual functionality

The multilingual functionality is composed of a couple of tools natively integrated with Brizy Cloud that lets you translate your website into multiple languages.

This feature is available in Brizy Free, but it is limited to only 1 extra language (besides the original language of your website) and manual translation.

If you want to offer your website content in more than 2 languages and also use our auto-translate functionality, you'll have to get Brizy PRO.

How to add more languages

All the global settings for translations can be found in Project Settings > Translate.

Here you'll set your original site language and add new translations. The original language is English by default and represents the default site language. All translations will be based on strings from this language.

To add more languages click the Add New Translation button, then select the new language your content will be translated on.

Go through the options and choose to turn on or off what you need/want:

Make Public - turn this on if you want your language to be public on the website. This lets you translate everything, iron everything out first, work on draft, and then make the new language public.

Auto Translate - this will automatically translate all strings using 3rd party service from Google Translate. This is available only in PRO accounts.

Auto Switch - if you have this on your browser will automatically redirect visitors based on their browser language.

Once you've set up everything press the Add Translation button at the bottom.

If you go back to the Translation page, all the languages added are listed here and can be managed on the Manage button.

How to translate your website & media

There are three ways to translate your website into multiple languages: using our auto-translation feature, manually translating every string or a combination of the two.

1. Auto Translate - Use the Auto Translate option when you are adding a new language. This will use our 3rd party integration with Google Translate and auto-translate your language.

2. Manually Translate - By going to the page you want to translate, and manually translate all the strings. Find the Translate tab on any page or blog post.

Use the filter to switch languages, type, or search for a specific string.

Manually translate your strings and/or media.

Press Update when done.

How to add a language switcher

Once you have everything translated, open the builder and add the Translation element on the page. In order for the element to show in all the pages of your website is it advisable to add it into a global block that will be on all the pages like a header or footer.

Clicking the element will bring up the regular options toolbar that lets you customize the language switcher to your liking.

Once done, preview and change between your languages on the front end.

English

Romanian

French

Tips & Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks to help you get around the translation functionality:

  • Tip 1: If you have PRO, always start with the auto translate and then adjust the translation manually if/where is needed. Also, leave the Make Public option off if you want to take your time to work on your new translation. Turn it on once you want to make your new language public.
  • Tip 2: You can tell which strings are manually translated or auto-translated by hovering the icon near the strings. To switch back to auto-translated, delete the entire translation and leave it empty. Next time the page will be accessed for that language, the string will be auto-translated again.
  • Tip 3: You can manually translate all the strings from all the pages and blog posts from the same page without the need to jump from page to page. You need to select the All Pages & Posts option from the Show from dropdown.
  • Tip 4: You can translate not only text content but media images as well. This works great when you have an image with text on it and need to replace it with another image with the text translated into the required language.

What's next

A lot is in the works for Brizy Cloud in the next weeks and months:

Until next time.
